These weeks keep flying by as Baby Michael is securely in that "he can come anytime" territory. At our baby classes, the instructor mentioned that due dates are just estimates, but babies come can come anywhere from two weeks before them, or two weeks after....we are now in the two-weeks before window! 4 weeks at the max!
All seems to be going pretty well, I can't complain too much, but my legs get so swollen and achy! That's really it, but it's pretty exhausting come the end of the day. I try to keep my legs up as much as possible, but it's hard to reach my keyboard comfortably at work, and I keep getting up and moving around to accomplish a variety of tasks. So, having my feet propped up for extended periods of time doesn't work too well.
Michael takes such good care of me and waits on me hand and swollen-foot from the moment I come in the door and collapse on the couch to the time we go to bed. Being the voice of reason, he always encourages me to go and change out of my work clothes into my relaxing clothes, but usually, he doesn't catch me in time before I plop on the couch...and once I'm down, I ain't gettin' up! He has been cleaning the apartment, getting me things, and arranging pillows for my feet. He is so wonderful!!
Really, the discomfort in the legs is the only complaint. I think because the tissues and muscles are almost always a little swollen, they are getting sore...kind of like I worked out too much or something (ha! That obvious isn't the problem!) I called the doctor to double check if that was ok, and the nurse advised me to just stay off my feet as much as possible, and if i'm worried about it too much, to come in later today. Since I've had my feet up all night last night and this morning, the discomfort subsided, so I think I'm going to skip that extra doctor's appointment unless the problem worsens. I have mine for Friday, anyways.
Baby Michael seems to be doing just fine! He is moving around as always....actually a little more now than before. It's nice to see feel him active and healthy, though sometimes he really gives me a good kick! He's not spending as much time in my ribs, but he still rests his feet up there pretty regularly.
I like how people are all such experts on "when" I'm going to deliver. Half the time, people say "Oh, the baby is getting low...he should come any time now" whereas the other half say "Oh...he's still really high...you have a lot of time!" I don't know whether he is low or high. He is getting so big, my stomach can't really grow straight out like it did before, so of course he's dropping a little just because of pure physics! But the fact that his rear end and feet are so consistently in my rib cage leads to me agree with those who say he is still high. Well...he'll do what he'll do and come when he comes!
Lately, the intensity of contractions have been increasing significantly. I am now able to clearly discern peaks in the pattern, and also time the space between them. So far, 15 minutes apart is what the record is for last night. Unfortunately, as soon as I got up to use the restroom, the contractions stopped, so they failed to meet the criteria of "longer, stronger, and closer together." Alas...baby Michael isn't ready yet.
But soon!!
