Maybe this is an indication that we are going to have a VERY special child (we know he's already special, but I mean EXTRA special)...or maybe it was just something I ate.
I went to Mass a few days and it was pretty much business-as-usual. Baby Michael was not too active that day, a few little rumblings here and there, but all-in-all, he was just sleeping a lot, or not moving very much. But when I was kneeling down during Mass, and Fr. Richard lifted up the Eucharist and said "This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world" little Michael moved....A LOT. This wasn't just a kick or poke, this felt like a full-blown tremor or squirm. I smiled because of course he had impeccable timing and it made me think of John the Baptist leaping at the sound of Mary's voice and the presence of Jesus in her womb. To Michael's credit at not producing much of a leap, and more like a ripple, John the Baptist was six months when he encountered Jesus, and little Michael is only 5 months old...but still. It could have been a coincidence, but it was neat.
As for the mama bear, I think I got my first glimpse at what people mean when they talk about a mama bear's instinct to protect her little cubs. I mean, I've gotten a good glimpse of what a mama bear must be like when she's hibernating, because a few months ago, that's all I could do. But a few days ago, I was walking to the laundry room to take care of some laundry, and a couple was walking ahead of me going to their apartment. They opened their gate and out bolted a huge dog. I don't know what kind...maybe a labrador. It was a big dog, though, easily capable of running me down if it jumped on me.
However, instead of being scared, I just got SUPER defensive. Like, I was SO ready to take on this dog if it came any closer. It was a really weird feeling. I was ready to fight to protect the little one! Fortunately, the owners managed to get a hold of the dog as it darted towards me, and I didn't have to do anything drastic, lucky for the dog!

That's so funny about little Michael's impeccable timing :). Hmmm ... if his "participation" at Mass is like this when he's still in utero, I bet he'll surpass his Daddy's antics at Mass ;) (I'm remember hearing stories about Michael holding a crucifix up high during Mass while following the priest's motions, and one time accidentally bonking someone on the head with it!).
Go Mama Bear instinct! It's funny -- stray/loose dogs make me feel that way too when it's just me and the kids. I've seriously thought in my head "Go ahead, dog, come closer and make my day" with my fists clenched at my side when a loose dog wanders by. It's a weird feeling, but good to know that some instinct in there is doing its job!
