Big Boy Bath

(I'm sorry this post won't have pictures...I was too busy trying to make sure our son didn't fling himself backwards and crack his head!)

Today was Michael's first adventure in the big boy tub, and the look on his face was priceless and something to the effect of: "Mom and Dad, are you seriously telling me such a thing existed all this time and I never knew about it?"

In between shrieks of joy and a permanent mouth-wide-open smile, Michael would occasionally look at us like, "this place has to be the coolest place ever!"

I had a feeling he would enjoy it and spent the day scrubbing the tub ensuring it was properly cleaned for its big debut. We bought a bath mat for him to sit on, and filled the tub with lots of toys, which he loved.

His biggest thrill was when I turned on the faucet a little so I could have a source of non-bubbly water. He thought that was pretty amazing.

The main impetus for the switch is that a) he will be 10 months old next week, and that is certainly not too early for the big boy tub b) he just looks huge for his baby tub (that thing says you can use it for a toddler...wow, I can't imagine him being a toddler and still squeezing in that thing c) and this is probably the most important reason: because my kitchen floor and counter are completely and utterly drenched by the time Michael is done splashing in his tub! I'm so glad he has fun in his bath and I don't want to discourage him from splashing, but, seriously, we need like blue seating splash zones a-la-Sea World and plastic tarps a-la-Gallagher just to get through a bath time these days. So, in the big tub, he can splash and go nuts and the floor (andthe parents) stay relatively protected.

Michael was joined in his bath tub by the swimming turtle (which finally was able to function in its natural habitat) (from Mumma and Papa) ; his hippo (from Aunt Tracee), his squirty-birdie (from Grammy and Poppy) and a bunch of bath-time alphabet letters from Mommy and Daddy. For most of the time, his companion of choice, for the bath and post-bath period was the letter "P."

So, Baby Michael, now that this wonderful world of big boy tubs is yours to enjoy...I suppose you will find all the more causes to make little boy messes to merit the use of the big boy tub!

Yay! It sounds like Michael had such a good time!

You described the look on his face so well -- I can totally picture it!

I bet he will love his first time in a pool!!

As always, too precious! I too could see Michael's face brighten up as he saw this wonderful new bath place. I agree, bathtime should be fun, they get to do it so often.
What a gift to share all these new firsts together as a family. There is no place like home for a loving Mommy and Daddy to help their children grow, learn and thrive.

Oh I bet he looks so little in the tub. I'm not surprised he loves it. So cute!
